47 × 39 × 23mm
82g

This is a half piece, lengthwise, with parts of its natural termination and beveled edgespreserved. The colour is vibrantly yellow, and looks really amazing when backlit.

Apatite is a fascinating group of phosphate minerals—often mistaken for other minerals, hence its name from the Greek apatao ("to deceive"). Occuring in many different colours, it is often mistaken for other minerals like beryl, tourmaline, or quartz. It is also the world’s main source of phosphorous. In other words, a lot of apatites get crushed up for fertiliser production.

The Fulford Mining District itself is not well known, and apatite from the area is not often available for sale.
