Rhodochrosite 'Shells' with Quartz and Micro-Pyrite (Wutong Mine, Guangxi, China) - 425_RC4
1.6 × 1.7 × 1.1 cm
These are the famous Wutong Mine Rhodochrosite 'shells' or 'petals' that I got from the Shanghai Mineral Show this year. Rhodochrosite from China was found in several large finds over the last 20 years at Wutong (sometimes spelled Wudong), in Guangxi. Each find, each year, seems to have produced slightly different crystal habits — discs, rhombohedral, tight clusters or spaced crystals.
This is the most floral like piece we have, whereby the shells overlap more like sakura petals than shells. On the back are many micro clear quartz points, and there is also a sprinkling of shiny micro-pyrite nodules.
These are usually quite expensive and hard to find, but we have done our best to maintain as low a price as possible!
