Sphalerite var. Cleiophane (9th September Mine, Bulgaria) - 1026_SCB2
About this specimen:
54 × 39 × 31mm (not including base dimensions)
87.3g (including base)
———
Cleiophane is a rare, iron-poor variety of sphalerite (zinc sulphide, ZnS), prized for its exceptional transparency and brilliant lustre. Unlike the darker, iron-rich varieties of sphalerite, cleiophane typically exhibits delicate shades of pale yellow, honey, greenish-yellow, or near-colourless tones.
Specimens from Bulgaria are particularly attractive for their glassy to resinous lustre and remarkable ability to catch and reflect light. With sphalerite's exceptionally high refractive index and strong light dispersion, well-formed cleiophane crystals can display an impressive sparkle.
———
Note: These are real and natural products, and so might have some flaws or imperfections. We have done our best to pick the best pieces available, but nature is often imperfectly perfect. Therefore, please only make the purchase if you are alright with this.
