Thulite (Mjønes Tunnel, Åstfjorden, Snillfjord, Orkland, Trøndelag, Norway)

SGD 63.00
Sold Out

Also known as Rosaline, because of its rosy, pink manganese colouration, Thulite is a type of zoisite (like the classic Ruby in Green Zoisite). It is also the national gemstone of Norway.

It was first discovered in Norway in 1820, and named after the mythical Scandinavian island of Thule. It is often used as a gemstone in the manufacture of jewellery. It is quite rare because the gem isn't found in many areas, and high-quality specimens are usually in limited supply.

The whites in thulites are calcite veins and fracture fillings. The less inclusions/veins there are in a thulite specimen, the higher the value. Intensity of pink also raises its value.
