Probertite (Kohnstein Quarry, Niedersachswerfen, Harztor, Nordhausen District, Thuringia, Germany)

SGD 90.00
Only 1 available

35 x 10mm

Probertite is a prismatic, borate mineral. It was first discovered in California and named after mineralogist Frank H. Probert.

It is uncommon, but well-formed, transparent crystals like this specimen are rare. Of all the locales, those from the Kohnstein Quarry are rated as the best by one or two orders of magnitude.

Additionally, individual crystals are even more rare than other formations.

What adds further to its rarity is that it's often mined to manufacture a wide variety of products including glass, fibre-optic cables, fiberglass, soaps, ceramics and paints.
