Minerva #1 Fluorite (Illinois, USA)

Only 1 available

An absolutely lovely and glassy specimen, with yellow roots shifting to rich purple and then blue along the edges (my phone camera couldn't capture so well).

The Minerva No. 1 Mine was a former zinc and fluorspar mine located north of Cave-in-Rock, Illinois. The mine was classified as a bedding replacement type mine (also known as a “manto”), that exploited the Cave-in-Rock orebody. It was the largest bedding replacement orebody in the United States.

The mine was officially closed in 1996 and the area is still heavily patrolled by the Hardin county Sherriff. So, nothing new is coming out at all.
