About this Specimen:
18 × 46 × 24mm (not including box dimensions)
23.1g (including box)

———

Barite is a barium sulphate mineral (BaSO₄), known for its high density and diverse crystal habits, ranging from delicate tabular formations to distinctive bladed and arrowhead-shaped crystals. Malachite, a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral (Cu₂CO₃(OH)₂), is prized for its vibrant green colour, which results from its copper content.

This unusual specimen from the Democratic Republic of the Congo features an intricate cluster of elongated, arrowhead-shaped barite crystals coated in vivid green malachite. The malachite forms a fine, velvety covering over the barite, preserving the underlying crystal shapes while giving the specimen its striking emerald-green appearance. Several exposed crystal tips reveal glimpses of the original translucent barite beneath.
